In November we visited Wire. The Wire Application is a messaging service which uses an encryption mechanisms to secure conversations like text, video, voice and media. Here is the interview with Wire & have a glance at their office.
What is your core business?
Wire is building a secure, private, and feature-rich communications platform.
How did you get to your business idea and when was your company established?
Wire as a company was founded in 2012 and launched it’s product – a messenger called Wire – in December, 2014.
Wire co-founders all have extensive experience in the communications space with ties to Skype.
Alan, Priidu and Jonathan together with Skype co-founder Janus Friis felt that the communication space wasn’t however ready.
There was room for a messenger that would combine all the best features while focusing on privacy – something to set it apart from the competition.

Are you using Venture Capital? And if – who are your Venture Partners?
Yes. Wire is backed by Iconical.
In which countries are you active? Are you planing to expand your venture in other countries? And if – where?
Wire is headquartered in Switzerland, with a development center in Berlin. As a digital product Wire is truly global, however our biggest countries in terms of users are Germany, US, Switzerland and MENA region.
We’re currently most focused on driving user growth in existing large markets.
Where do you see the company in 5 years?
We believe that more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of protecting their privacy online and we want to be at the forefront, driving that change.
Today, Wire has a secure messenger, but this is just the start.
There is growing need among the SMBEs for an encrypted team collaboration tools, and for a secure communication platform that powers secure information exchange in medical, financial, Internet of Things and automotive.

What kind of attitude should new employees have to have in order to work at your company?
We’re looking for people who get things done and are always thriving to learn more and grow in their role.
Our fast development pace focuses on collaboration across and within teams and relies on the art of compromise. Finding the right scope to move fast but stick to a high standard of quality of results to put features quickly in the hands of users helps us to learn, iterate and improve faster than the competition.
Why is it fun to work at your company? Do you offer any employee benefits?

Day-to-day: Functional programming languages, hardware of your choice, adjustable standing desks, high quality chairs, regular tech talks, developer meetups in the office, bike storage, table tennis, foosball, yoga, breakfasts and lunches.
Do you offer new employees a relocation service or help to relocate?
Berlin is a great city at the heart of Europe and it attracts a lot of talent. We have high standards in hiring and if we find the right person then we give full support in helping them and their families to move.
Do you have a job board? What is the web-link?
Yes, have a look here.
Your Office:
How big is your Office/Production Site?
Beautiful and big enough for our team with around 50 colleagues. We even have an event room which we use for tech talks and meetups.
Almost 80% of our team work on the production/development side.
Did you get help from an interior designer by designing the office? And if who did you work together with?
We like to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty, i.e. we conducted an office painting event on a weekend and also planted flowers and plants on our own.
The space we have at Hackesche Höfe has tons of natural light and we focused on that – kept everything light and neutral, decluttered the space to make room for ideas.
Thank you Wire Team for this interview and the photoshooting!
