This was our second visit at the Scout24 Group. This time we had the office dropin at their brand new office in Munich.
Here is the interview, meet the team and have a look at their really nice office in Munich.
What is your core business?
The Scout24 Group is a leading innovator of digital marketplaces specialising in the real estate and automotive sectors in Germany and other selected European countries.
We operate two well-known and popular brands, ImmobilienScout24 and AutoScout24 and help people find a home and/or buy a car, two major events in everyone’s lives.
In addition, since 2017 we also bundle all services and offers relating to the search for cars or real estate in a third business area: Scout24 Consumer Services.
Part of this third new business segment is also the digital marketer Scout24 Media. It offers advertisers usage-based online advertising on ImmobilienScout24 and AutoScout24.

What is important to Scout24 – apart from growing business and earning money?
We see Scout24 as a “Corporate Citizen” in all business activities and as a hub in a network of different players and partners. We are committed to contributing to society.
The focus here is on the many opportunities for our Scouts to become involved.
Corporate Volunteering is at the heart of our engagement.
We are convinced that this approach enables us to make a real difference at our offices in Berlin and Munich, increasingly also at the offices of our subsidiaries in other European countries.

“Our goal is to strengthen civil society at a local level. In 2017 our employees invested 4,800 hours in charitable projects.”
For example: during Scout24 Social Day in four different locations employees exchange their laptops and desks for mallets, paintbrushes or shovels to spend an entire day working on projects at charitable institutions.
There are volunteering opportunities in various areas, such as working with children, seniors and the homeless as well as animal welfare, educational assistance and historic preservation.

What about diversity at Scout24?
Diversity is about finding the best talents for our teams to develop the best products for our customers and consumers!
For us diversity clearly increases problem-solving competence in teams through different perspectives and approaches.
That’s why we look for the best international talents for our teams. In 2017 our employees had 45 different nationalities. As of 2018 people from 56 different nationalities work at Scout24.In addition, our “Diversity in Tech Community” aims to increase the proportion of female engineers in the company from 14% to 24% in the medium term.
How would you describe your company culture? Is it reflected in the office space?
Our company culture is based on four values: Agile, data-driven, one team and winning. And our office space in Munich clearly reflects these values.
We have open space, flexible office fittings, state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and communication hubs, meeting areas and living kitchens to support cross-functional team working.
Every morning each employee can choose where he or she wants to work that day. This office concept makes communication and team work easy and transparent and fosters innovation and inspiration on all work levels.
Also, working hard means we can also party hard as well and therefore our cafeteria “Nordschleife” offers enough space for great parties thrown by our winning teams 😉.

How big is your office?

Our office building in Berlin is approximately 14,000 m² with four floors for more than 500 employees. It’s located in the trendy neighbourhood Friedrichshain so we are close to everything.
The building includes a company owned canteen and also an in-house coffee bar which is part of the popular coffee shop MilchHalle.
We also have a lounge area where employees can take a break playing table tennis or soccer.

Our new Munich office has approximately 8,000 m² with three floors for about 500 employees. It’s located in Haidhausen close to the Ostbahnhof.
We have an own cafeteria here, a playroom with table soccer and Wii Playstation, a very nice green courtyard and a rooftop terrace.
Did you get help from an interior designer by designing the office? And if who did you work together with?
We worked together with the architect company Artec that supported us in designing our premises in Berlin.
In Munich we worked together with combine Consulting GmbH and combine Design GmbH.
