We visited the radio company REGIOCAST in Berlin.
Here is the interview, meet the team and have a look at their really nice office “The Farm” in Berlin.

YOUR BUSINESS
What is REGIOCAST?
REGIOCAST is a radio group with shares in several stations all over Germany. Many of the stations are operated fully by REGIOCAST. The company pushes the digital transformation of the radio industry actively.
REGIOCAST in its current form was founded in 2010. Heritage stations like Radio Schleswig-Holstein, (R.SH) have been existing since 1986.
The headquarters of REGIOCAST are in Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel, Leipzig, and Kassel.
In 2016 the offices in Berlin were newly built for the Digital Unit amongst others.
What is your core business?
Inspire listeners with relevant audio content to build loyal users for our already established and newly created radio brands.
We engage with our users through classic FM broadcasting and increasingly through digital touch points like apps, audio-centric websites, Alexa skills and particularly through new, digital-only audio brands.
How did you get to your business idea and when was your company established?
The idea for a digital division in Berlin first came up in 2015. As one core value of our digital agenda we defined to become a driving force in the digital transformation of the German radio market.
This created the need for new workflows and technology in radio production. Together with people from the radio industry, but also with people having a completely different background, we teared apart the classic way of radio production and re-engineered it in a new work-orientated space.
Today, we are running more than 200 radio channels for REGIOCAST and external clients.
Are you using venture capital?
No, we don’t.
In which countries are you active?
Our traditional FM stations target German-speaking countries. However, we experience high usage of our digital brands from all-over the world.
Where do you see the company in 5 years?
If the growth and dynamic we have experienced in the last two years continues, we will be Germany’s number one digital radio provider in less than five years.
YOUR TEAM
How many employees work at your company at the moment? Are you planning to expand?
REGIOCAST employs about 300 people in all its offices combined. In Berlin, there are about a dozen employees right now. We recently hired several new people and will continue to do so.
What is the average age of your team members?
The average age is 38.
What kind of attitude should new employees bring, in order to work at your company?
We are very hands on. We work in a great office with senior employees. We serve homemade gourmet food, often also prepared by the managing director himself, drink gourmet coffee, work with Surface laptops etc.
But we have nothing that is “corporate” in the classical sense: receptionists, secretaries, cleaning staff on a daily basis.
We take care of the working environment and atmosphere. What is important for a smooth office life is also the core of the job: It’s the best idea that counts, not hierarchical structures.
It is all about executional excellence. And it is about lived responsibility. For every team member.

Why is it fun to work at your company?

Almost on a daily basis, we get visits from music labels and celebrities, who give interviews, produce videos (or have videos produced for them by us), play unplugged in our production studios, dance in our disco restrooms and afterwards relax in our kitchen.
So far, employees asking for a selfie have never been denied 😊 In general, we pay attention to indulgence and healthy eating and prepare the food ourselves.
We train new employees as baristas on a professional Italian coffee machine with imported gourmet coffee from Italy.
We offer employees and guests milk that caters their needs or preferences, whether it may be soy, oat or almond milk.
We grow our own herbs, offer our employees and guests a selection of fresh fruits, ginger, lemons, and a variety of homemade cakes and tartes free of charge.
We have an ice cream machine, a beer tap, a sous vide cooker as well as a fully equipped 40 sqm kitchen including a golden dining table.
Naturally, all of this is also used for team events, simply for lunch or just because it’s hot outside and homemade ice cream sounds like a splendid idea.
In the restrooms, we offer our employees and guests high quality cleansing and body care products.
We are perfectly connected to Berlin’s public transport system.
Two fitness centres (Fit X/Crossfit) are less than 150m away from the office. So is the beach volleyball pitch and an indoor climbing wall.

How big is your office?
450qm in Berlin Schöneberg, conveniently located next to Südkreuz station.
Did you get help from an interior designer by designing the office? And if who did you work together with?
Our vision to reflect music, and more specifically rock and disco, in an industrial loft was devoloped together with the interior architect Astrid Pankrath.
She designed a lot of cool spaces like St. Oberholz in Berlin Mitte. Many details – particularly decorative items, lamps etc – were selected and sourced by us.
