Please tell us something about Idealo. When was the company founded? 

idealo was founded in 2000 in Berlin. Our offices are now located in Kreuzberg and we power all websites in 6 countries from here. Even more if you take our flight and hotel price comparison websites into account.

Your Business

What is your core business?

The core business of idealo is comparing prices for over 330 million offers from over 50.000

merchants. Considering the vast amount of data idealo receives every day from merchants

in different formats, sorting everything is not as easy as it may sound at first. idealo

normalizes all offers and by that makes them easily comparable for consumers based on

objective criteria. Also idealo enriches information where it is missing in order to provide a

smooth customer experience independently from product categories. Since 2015 consumers

are able to shop on directly our platform.

Are you using Venture Capital? And if so – who are your Venture Partners? 

We are proud to say, that we make our own money for many years now. The Axel Springer

SE is our biggest shareholder with 74,9 % since 2006.

Are you planning to expand your venture in other countries? And if so – where? 

We are active in Germany, France, UK, Austria, Italy and Spain. Additionally our flights and

hotel comparison websites are available in the U.S., the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal,

Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway.

Where do you see the company in 5 years?

We’re currently expanding our business and give consumers more convenience on top of

the comparison part of our business. People are able to shop on our platform. We are

combining the best of both worlds – on the one hand the transparency of a classic price

comparison platform which brings a complete market overview to the customers and on the

Your Team

How many employees work at your company right now? Are you planning to expand? 

Currently we are more than 700 employees, and are constantly growing. We still hiring in all

areas. 

What is the average age of your team members ?

In average an idealo is around 30 years old.

What kind of attitude should new employees have in order to work at your company? 

We are looking for creative and focused people that want to take responsibility in a

professional environment. People that want to learn new things, make a difference and make

their colleagues better are very welcome at our offices.We want to give any employee as

much freedom as possible to be able to interpret their role as they like within the framework

we provide.

Why is it fun to work at your company? Do you offer any employee benefits?

It’s fun because we have fantastic people working on a really great product that is used by

millions of customers out there. Even though we have over 700 employees by now and have

made many changes within the organization bringing us into an agile and modern workflow,

we were able to preserve this special feeling among the idealos. It’s not the free water,

coffee and tea as well as cereal, different kinds of milk, vegetables, fruits and German

classes that sets us apart from other companies – it’s the people and how they interact

together to make idealo awesome.

Do you offer new employees a relocation service or help to relocate?

We offer German Classes and do help new idealos to find a new place to stay. It often works

over colleagues and we’ve been fairly good in finding a place to stay for everyone so far.

YOUR OFFICE

How big is your Office?

We are located in a 10.000 square meter office in Berlin-Kreuzberg. It is an old building from

the outside but we renovated everything inside before we moved in.
